Q: What is a third party check?

A: A third party check is a check that was made payable to an individual who then signed it over to another individual. Many banks do not accept third party checks, including PyraMax Bank. A third party check may not be payable at the bank that it was drawn off of, therefore causing unnecessary returned item fees for our clients.

Q: How long will my check be held?

A: The amount of time that a check is held is dependent on the type of deposit. Checks drawn on PyraMax Bank, state and government checks, and US Treasury checks are available the day that the deposit is received. Cashier's checks, certified checks, teller checks, Federal Reserve Bank checks, Federal Home Loan Bank checks, Postal money orders and the first $200 of a day's deposit of other checks are available the first business day after the day of deposit. All other checks are available by the second business day after the day of deposit.

Q: What do I need to do to pay a stop payment on a check?

A: You can place a stop payment on your personal account online by logging into online banking. Choose account services under the customer service tab. You can also contact your local branch for assistance. Placing a stop payment is simple, but a fee may apply.

Q: Why did my checking account close?

A: Accounts that fall to a $0.00 balance may close automatically.  Please leave at least $0.01 in your account to keep it open.  If your account does close automatically and you need assistance to reopen it, please contact your local branch.

Q: Is there a fee for a bank check or money order?

A: Yes, there is a cost to purchase both a bank check and a money order.  Please see your account disclosures for information or contact your local branch.

Q: How old do I have to be to open a checking account?

A: An individual must be 18 years old to open a checking account as a sole owner of the account.  Exceptions may be made for individuals age 16 or 17, provided that the account is held jointly with an adult over the age of 18.
