What to Know Before Applying for a Construction Loan

As we make our way into the last quarter of the year, and colder weather, Wisconsin sees an interesting trend in the housing market. Specifically, the number of homes on the market tends to drop as we get into the colder months, with many sellers looking to relocate during the warmer months. With that said, there is always an option that many people consider; it could be time to think about building a house that is right for you.

While we’ve already told you about the advantages of building a home, you may not know where to begin. That’s where we’d like to come in this month; to help you figure out the steps to take before applying for a Construction Loan:

Talk to a PyraMax Bank Mortgage Loan Officer

Whether or not you choose to build your home, an initial meeting with a PyraMax Bank Mortgage Loan Officer is a great first step. Our knowledgeable staff have years of experience with Construction Loans, and can answer just about any question that you may have for us.

Collect Financial Documents

Having documentation of your financial history, including annual income, debt, investments and more will be helpful in the process of applying for a Construction Loan.

Get Pre-Approved

Determine the approximate amount that you are looking to receive a loan for (your Mortgage Loan Officer can help you estimate), and submit paperwork for a preapproval. This will give you an idea of the funds available to you before you start construction. It may be helpful to consult or pick your builder putting in a request for preapproval.

Apply for your Loan

Once you’re preapproved and have found a builder to work with, the next step would be to actually apply for your Construction Loan. Since you have a determined amount that you are eligible to borrow, you can discuss your building plans with your Mortgage Loan Officer, including any foreseeable changes, and our team will take it from there.

If you have any questions about a Construction Loan, our Mortgage Lending team is always available to take your questions or schedule an initial meeting. We look forward to helping you build the home that is right for you.
